HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO SELL MY FIRST WEDDING?

If you've just launched your wedding planning business, you're probably asking one big question: “How long will it take me to sell my first wedding?”

The honest answer? It’s a bit like asking “how long is a piece of string?”

Some new planners land their first booking within weeks, while others may wait a few months or longer. It depends on a mix of timing, luck, and most importantly—effort. But don’t worry, there are things you can do to speed up the process and start building momentum.

1. Build a Strong Online Presence

Your website is your digital shop window. Make it beautiful, easy to navigate, and packed with useful information. Think about what a couple is Googling when they're searching for help—Wedding planner in Lake Como, intimate elopement ideas in Tuscany, how to plan a destination wedding in Italy. Use keywords like this naturally throughout your content to boost your SEO. Keep making regular updates - Google likes that and don't forget to make sure that you have submitted your website to Google.

2. Show Up on Social Media

Love it or hate it, social media is essential. Share pictures of wedding dishes that look amazing, venues you're offering, tips, and real wedding inspiration. Don’t wait until you’ve booked a full wedding to start posting—you can share pictures of wedding flowers, table décor ideas, mood boards, or planning advice. Reels and short-form video perform particularly well right now, so show your face and let people get to know you.

3. Be Quick and Knowledgeable

If someone fills out your contact form or sends you a DM—reply fast. Couples often reach out to several planners at once. A speedy, warm, and knowledgeable reply could be the difference between booking and being ghosted. Even if you’re not sure they’re “your ideal client,” be professional. You never know!

4. Say Yes to Everything (At the Start!)

On-the-day coordination? Yes. Just-the-ceremony setup? Yes. Proposal planning, elopements, small part-planning gigs? Also yes.

These smaller jobs may not be your ultimate goal, but they give you experience, content for your portfolio, lovely reviews, and cash in your pocket. They also get your name circulating, and word-of-mouth is golden in this industry. You can be more selective later on—but for now, think of every job as a stepping stone.

5. Network Like It’s Your Job (Because It Is)

Introduce yourself to local vendors, venues, florists, photographers—everyone in the wedding ecosystem. Attend open days, visit wedding fairs (even if just as a guest), and let people know you're available and enthusiastic. Relationships lead to referrals. You can also meet potential future suppliers while you're out and about.

6. Set Up a Google Business Profile

This is such an underrated tool, and it’s free. It helps you appear in local searches, allows clients to leave reviews, and gives you a more professional presence. You can also post updates and photos—think of it as your mini-website on Google.

FINAL THOUGHTS

So, how long will it take to sell your first wedding? No one can say for sure. But if you put yourself out there, build a strong presence, respond quickly, and say yes to early opportunities, you'll dramatically increase your chances of getting booked sooner rather than later.

Your first wedding is just the beginning. Use it as a launchpad to grow, evolve, and build the business you've dreamed of.
